ENTERTAINMENT

This year's entertainment is listed below and we have plenty of action around the showgrounds for you and the family to enjoy including some of the old favourites!

Finally, we are seeing some cooler temperatures and some beautiful blue Whitsunday skies.  That also means that finally the show grounds are starting to dry out after what seems like months of constant rain, and it’s time to get the Proserpine Showgrounds ready once again for our regions Annual Show. That means that the excitement and family fun of the 111st Show Whitsunday will be happening 21st & 22nd June.

So, what can visitors look forward to in 2024 …………

Our Annual Agricultural Show is primarily about 2 things – entertaining the locals and competition. Like any Agricultural Show the Entertainment staple is the thrills and spills of side show alley and its many rides and opportunities to create memories with family and friend no matter your age.  Melville’s Baby Animal Farm is without a doubt the busiest site on the grounds with patrons of all ages viewing and feeding the cute baby animals.  You will also be able to immerse yourself in Precision Reptiles interactive wildlife education display.  Fancy a photo with a bearded dragon or a slithering python – make sure you do miss out.   For the littlies there is the Mini Bouncing Rodeo where potential rodeo stars can compete in their very own competition………………….

This year we are very excited to welcome to the region for the very first time at Show Whitsunday – Frank Finger and his Muster Dogs.  For those in the know, you will recognise Frank as the Season One Winner of the ABC TV series Muster Dog series.  Frank and his beloved working dog kelpie, Annie won the hearts of many who followed the series.   This will be a great opportunity to meet and greet Frank and his team.  Frank and his Muster Dogs will be appearing Friday only.

For our more adventurous patrons we welcome back Airtime FMX Motocross. The Airtime FMX Team are promising the Whitsundays another weekend of thrilling Freestyle Motocross. With high-profile long-term clients including Sydney Royal Easter Show, V8 Supercars, Titans NRL, Ekka and Adelaide Royal Show, drawing crowds and providing action packed entertainment is what they specialise in. Airtime FMX perform on both Friday and Saturday including a performance Friday evening just before our massive Fireworks display at 8pm.

We are often asked “what keeps people coming back to the Show”.  Other than the chance to catch up with local family and friends and just have fun, perhaps the reason lies in the 111-year-old Show’s schedule of competition and exhibits which is what started the Show all those years ago.

Every year our Show plays host to many visitors who travel from around the country to compete in our varied pursuits and sports. The Equestrian Rings play hosts to a two-day program of equestrian and horse jumping drawing entries from the local region and interstate. The stud and beef cattle exhibit have a reputation of being a heavily contested state-wide event as does the infamous Chook House playing host to varied range of poultry, ducks and geese entries from across the region and is very popular with the crowds.  Then of course what would be a regional Ag Show without a woodchop competition.  The Woodchop Event is also a two-day sporting event which draws entries from across Australia.  Many of its competitors are State, National and International Titles holders. The local regions staple agricultural crop – sugar cane also provides visitors with a worthy exhibit which is a major event on the local Sugar Industry Calendar.

But the show isn’t all about action and animals …… Our Art, Craft and Cooking competitions showcase the skills and talents of our residents of all ages from across the region. Muffins, scones, piklets and fruitcake – everything baking that can be is turned into a competition.  Our Art and Photography is a great opportunity for you to see the creativity of the many talented artists in the region.  There is also the Fruit and Garden Produce and Plant and Flower exhibits which many residents compete in annually.

So, for those wanting to take part in the competitions simply go to the website www.showwhitsunday.com.au for schedules and details. It’s not too late to become involved.

The show strives to have something for everyone – whether its dodgem cars or the whizzer, the charm of the baby animal farm, showbags and fireworks or just catching up for a cold beer at the infamous Biggest Regional Show Bar in the North ……you can do it all at Show Whitsunday.

The 111th Show Whitsunday will be at the Proserpine Showgrounds 21st & 22nd June 2024.

Don't forget the favourites!
